Things You Should Know About Your Mug At Office

You must have at least one mug at the office to use for your coffee, tea, or other everyday beverages. As you cannot work properly without these beverages, it is a given if you use the mug quite often from day to day basis. Therefore, it is quite practical to keep them at the office rather than taking them back home. Besides, you can wash it easily as cleaning supply has been provided at the office and your mug will be ready to use again in the next day.

Unfortunately, this is where you are off – base and we will open your eyes to the probably shocking truth that will disturb your healthy at work lifestyle. Did you know that the mug you keep at the office is a container of germs? Let’s temporarily put aside that you wash your mug after being used and think of the mug you left sitting on your desk unwashed with coffee ring visible to the eye.

Based on Charles Gerba, environmental microbiology professor at the University of Arizona, cups and mugs kept in the offices can be a breeding ground for all of nasty things that will make your health state on the line. “Colonies of germs are living in your favorite cup,” stated Gerba to Men’s Health as quoted on Mirror. Through his research, Gerba reveals that 90{e56e98cffb3900b5e8849a3588d7fad4e42d0c2720d7b074b7ab4ed4811d4b0a} of office cups and mugs contain germs that can live for up to three days. What’s more, 20{e56e98cffb3900b5e8849a3588d7fad4e42d0c2720d7b074b7ab4ed4811d4b0a} of which carry fecal bacteria! Gerba emphasizes that unwashed mugs and cups will be the snug environment for germs to start breeding or reproducing immediately and the coffee ring will make it even worse.

Now you must be feeling great as you develop a habit to clean your mug at the office before you go home. Well, there is actually one important office tips that we are yet to deliver to you and it will probably change your mindset about the mentioned habit. Keep in mind that washing out your mug in the office with the sponge you share with everyone will not help much, let alone if you give it a quick wash.

The nasty things in your mug are actually the result of using an office sponge to clean your mug. The shared sponge likely has been hanging around for a very long time and covered in bacteria. The gross thing is, these bacteria and germs will transform into your mug and mix into your beverages. Yuck!

Therefore, Gerba encourages you to bring your cup home instead of keeping it at the office. At home, you can do some thorough cleaning in a dishwasher on the hottest temperature to remove the germs. In case you do not have a dishwasher, you can try this tips; filling up your mug with hot water and add a teaspoon of baking soda. Let it sits overnight before you wash the mug in the hot water as you usually do.

It may be a bother to bring your mug back and forth from the office to your home, but if you can maintain your healthy at work lifestyle and prevent the nasty gems and bacteria to breed, it is worth the effort, is it not? Get our other tips to keep you healthy at work on our blog page and don’t forget to hit the SUBSCRIBE button to get the latest update of our blog!
